JDI on Campus – Connecting Students with their Future Careers

Keeping and growing the talented next generation here at home with rewarding work experiences is important to us.  We're looking forward to being on campus at Dalhousie University (DAL) and University of New Brunswick (UNB) campuses - September 12,16 and 17. Students can connect one-on-one with recruiters from a variety of diverse J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) companies.

Engineering, Business, Computer Science/IT and Forestry students will be able to speak directly to someone who is currently employed in the career that they are considering pursuing. The goal of our talent acquisition team is to meet and attract student candidates that are interested in growing their career with JDI.

“With 2,500+ student roles to fill in the next three years, having an on-campus presence is an integral part of our recruitment strategy and would not be possible without the support of great partners like the University of New Brunswick and Dalhousie University. Our recruiters and business leaders are looking forward to speaking with students at schools across Atlantic Canada this September!” says Christian Schortemeyer, Campus Recruitment Team Leader.

Between 2019 and 2021, the company is forecasting over 7500 full time hires - professionals and skilled trades.  "89% of the jobs we need to fill are in the Atlantic provinces,” said Colleen Baxter, Vice President of Human Resources at J.D. Irving, Limited. “72% of the jobs are in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia alone.”

“We are a company focused on investing in the talent and potential of our people and offer a unique opportunity to join one operation and grow a career with many of our businesses,” Baxter says. “Our strategy is to keep talented young people home, bring them home and to welcome newcomers.”

This is the third year that JDI is partnering with UNB and the second year with DAL to provide a more focused event for students to learn about the company and engage with employees. Both DAL and UNB are valued partners providing excellent co-op students, case studies, recruitment and research.

Info sessions will be held each evening where recruiters, university alumni who are a part of the JDI team and students can come together to have a conversation about career opportunities. Check-out the schedule below to find out where we will be:
