Karl Le Gal, Process Improvement Leader
In 2005, after completing a Bachelor of Engineering at Université de Moncton, Karl Le Gal joined the team at J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) at the Saint Léonard Sawmill. A native of Edmundston, New Brunswick, Karl was thrilled to find a rewarding career so close to home.
Karl’s career with JDI began as the Electrical Department Supervisor at the Saint Léonard Sawmill. Over the next ten years, Karl transitioned from this role to Maintenance Superintendent, to the position he now holds as Process Improvement Leader.
As the Process Improvement Leader at the Saint Léonard Sawmill, Karl is involved in diverse continuous development projects at JDI. “The most interesting part of my job is being able to touch every aspect of the business –from quality, sales, maintenance, to production and more – I get to see every part of the business to help the company advance.”

Karl has always strived to further his education. With the support of JDI, he has completed a number of programming courses, reliability training, and the Ivey School of Business Leadership Training program.
Karl also shares his love of learning with others. In his leadership role, Karl has mentored a number of co-op students. Having spent two seasons as a summer student in the electrical department of the Saint Léonard Sawmill prior to being hired as a full-time employee, Karl understands the value of a work term with JDI: “The students are exposed to all aspects of the business – it really helps them to see the different career paths available with JDI.”
Karl is happy to have found a rewarding career that he truly enjoys here at home, where he not only assists in the growth of the company, but also in the growth of the next generation of the workforce.
