Leaders in Rail Safety

New Brunswick Southern Railway (NBSR) and New Brunswick's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (NBDOTI) are working together to create a Canadian version of the US Rail Safety for Emergency Responders course.

The pilot project is endorsed by Operation Lifesaver, a national public rail safety organization.  Once the pilot project is complete, Operation Lifesaver will have consultations and review feedback; then it plans to offer the course as part of its national program.

NBSR and NBDOTI held its first training session in Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick on October 19 with the Grand Bay-Westfield Fire Department along with some members of the Saint John Fire Department.  The session included an in-class presentation as well as an in-field exercise.

Certified trainer Terry Howe of RST was also involved in the emergency responder presentations.

Future training sessions are scheduled with the Fire Departments in Saint John, Fredericton Junction, Hoyt, Harvey, and McAdam.
