On April 6, 2016, Midland Transport presented Food Depot Alimentaire with the keys to a 2011 Freightliner 5-tonne straight truck as a donation to the non-profit organization. The truck will allow Food Depot Alimentaire to continue to provide support to people in need in southeastern New Brunswick.

Food Depot Alimentaire collects, warehouses and supplies food to more than 20 food banks, community kitchens and other agencies. Their services include food collection and distribution, fundraising and advocacy. Nearly 2.5 million pounds of donated food pass through the Food Depot Alimentaire warehouse every year. That’s enough food to fill 85 tractor-trailers.

Chantal Senecal, Executive Director of Food Depot Alimentaire said the donation is critical to their organization. “Our old truck recently broke down and we weren’t sure how we were going to continue to collect food from suppliers, or deliver food to food banks and agencies in Greater Moncton and southeastern New Brunswick,” she said. “We couldn’t afford to purchase a new truck. This wonderful donation allows us to continue to serve all the people in our community who need it.”

J.D. Irving, Limited has a long relationship with Food Depot Alimentaire, including the support of all the organization’s fundraisers, previous donation of a cube van, and capital funding towards the purchase of their new facility.
