MV Leif Ericson

The MV Leif Ericson is a commercial ferry that travels between North Sydney, NS and Port aux Basques, NF, named in 2001 to mark the 1000th anniversary of Norse explorer Leif Ericson’s arrival in the New World - nearly 500 years before Christopher Columbus.

The vessel is currently in the Nova Dock at Halifax Shipyard for routine maintenance, including painting and mechanical work.  It is scheduled to be in dry dock for approximately one month and will require 75 shipyard employees to complete the required work.

Irving Shipbuilding continues to pursue commercial ship repair opportunities and hopes to be in a position to announce additional contracts soon.
