New Deer Island Ferry Under Construction at CFM in Saint John, NB

Custom Fabricators and Machinists (CFM), based in Saint John, NB is building a new, 24-car ferry for Deer Island. It will replace the John E. Rigby ferry in the fall of 2015.

Approximately 35 workers are involved in this project, including steel fitters, welders, machinists, electricians, engineers, labourers, draftsmen, and project managers.

"This project employs many of our people that have been proudly building ferries for New Brunswick for the last 20 years," said Mike Turnbull, General Manager, CFM. "We were also able to partner with several other New Brunswick contractors, so this is truly a New Brunswick solution – providing jobs for New Brunswickers by building a ferry that will be used by New Brunswickers over the long term.”

In operation for more than 40 years, CFM employs a total of 210 people.

CFM provides a number of services including machining, fabrication, inspections and non-destructive testing, surveying and dimensional control, overhead cranes, weigh scales, field services, and engineering and design services throughout Eastern Canada, the Northeastern United States, and around the globe.
