Sawmill Division Helping Build Homes for Habitat for Humanity
Saint John, NB - J.D. Irving, Limited's Sawmill Division will be assisting in the build of three Habitat for Humanity homes in New Brunswick. The homes, located in Fredericton, Oromocto and Moncton, will also be getting a combined lumber donation of over $26,000.
These new builds will allow three families in the area to have brand new, economical homes in their own communities.
“As a single mother who has struggled finding affordable housing in this area. Struggled to maintain a house we were living in with numerous issues ( water, electrical, structural) as well as, extremely high power bills. We will be forever grateful and thankful for this life changing opportunity. This will allow us to have a safe and stable roof over our heads with a mortgage and power bill that is manageable. This will allow us to enjoy our lives a little easier and have a lot less stress, worry and fear of what’s coming next and how much it is going to cost," said Erica, who will be moving into one of the new homes.
As the builds begin, a team of volunteers from the Sawmill Division will be preparing to visit the COVID-safe building site to help with building the the new homes.
“We are so pleased with this donation from J.D. Irving, Limited as it will help Habitat for Humanity provide a life changing opportunity of affordable home ownership to three New Brunswick families. We look forward to working alongside our future homeowner families as we build these safe, energy efficient homes that will be affordable for the long term. We also look forward to welcoming volunteer teams from J.D. Irving, Limited at one of our corporate build days to help us build these homes.
As rental rates and house prices have increased significantly in recent years, the need for an affordable alternative for families in lower income situations is more important than ever. With the help of businesses like J.D. Irving, Limited and local individuals we are able to build more homes for families in our communities,” says Perry Kendall, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Fredericton Area.
