Eterne Award recognizes company’s environmental stewardship.

DIEPPE (NB)–MAJESTA, the locally made, Treesponsible™ brand of household paper products, was recognized by Tree Canada recently in a ceremony held at the J.D. Irving, Limited Moncton building at 100 Midland Drive in Dieppe, NB.

Made from a section of an ancient tree dating back to around 2400 B.C., the Eterne Award is a national award given annually to companies that support Tree Canada and exemplify the very best in environmental stewardship.  Robert K. Irving,  Co-Chief Executive Officer of J.D. Irving, Limited, and Michael Rosen, R.F.P., President of Tree Canada unveiled the award during the celebration.

“We at Tree Canada understand too well that trees have been a passion of J.D. Irving, Limited since its founding,” said Michael Rosen. 

MAJESTA paper products are made from trees grown in JDI-managed forests.  The soft, green brand, MAJESTA goes beyond JDI’s normal tree planting in that three trees are planted for every one used to make MAJESTA products. 

“At JDI, we believe trees and forests are an important part of our future.  We have been in the forest products business for over 130 years,” said Mr. Irving. “We really believe tomorrow depends on what we do today.  We are responsible for ensuring a healthy forest future for generations to come.”

MAJESTA has partnered with Tree Canada since 2009.  Through their Trees of Knowledge competition, MAJESTA and Focus on Forests, another partner, have jointly awarded three outdoor classrooms worth $20,000 each.  The most recent winner was Island View School in Saint John, NB.

“In presenting MAJESTA with the Eterne Award, we recognize the tangible link the company is making between trees and the quality of our children’s schooling,” said Mr.  Rosen.
