Moncton, N.B. – Current and future students of the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) in Dieppe will benefit from a recent donation of two engines by Universal Truck and Trailer (UTT).
 
The engines will be used for training by students of NBCC’s Heavy Equipment Service Technician program.  “We are always grateful for the support of the industry, including Universal Truck and Trailer, who help equip our students with current technology that allows them to fully apply their skills,” said Marilyn Luscombe, President and CEO of NBCC. “On behalf of NBCC and the students in the Heavy Equipment Service Technician program, we thank Universal Truck and Trailer for these generous engine donations.” 

The donation is part of Universal Truck and Trailer’s long-time support of NBCC programs; Universal Truck and Trailer has donated other components and equipment in the past. Additionally, employees of UTT have volunteered to speak to students about updates in the industry.

Irving, Limited is proud to employ almost 1600 graduates of NBCC and CCNB - 97% of which are working here at home in New Brunswick.”

The equipment donation is part of an ongoing partnership between the province’s community colleges and J.D. Irving, Limited; in 2014, Irving Pulp and Paper donated several pieces of equipment, including a steam turbine and a vacuum pump to NBCC’s Saint John campus. Students in the Mechanical Technician and Industrial Millwright courses continue to benefit from this donation. 

NBCC and CCNB are vital partners in the development of our future workforce.  Over the next three years, JDI will be hiring almost 7,800 employees across our operations – over 3700 of these positions are in New Brunswick, and many are for skilled trades. NBCC and CCNB are our primary source of skilled tradespeople.
