Irving Paper, Irving Wallboard and our offices on Bayside Drive remain closed as of 4:30 PM (AST) today.

The decision is the result of testing that identified the possibility of butane levels at Irving Paper yesterday. Testing by Irving Oil with the Saint John Fire Department yesterday confirmed no imminent risk of ignition. However, initial test results yesterday evening indicate that certain locations within Irving Paper exceeded the regulatory standards regarding butane. Butane is not used at Irving Paper. As a result, further investigation has been ongoing.

We continue to work diligently with the Saint John Fire Department, Irving Oil and outside experts that we have brought in who specialize in monitoring and testing. We have also brought in additional testing materials to expedite the process.

Employees will return to these worksites when two separate tests have determined we meet the safe, regulated exposure levels.

Our primary concern during this difficult situation is for the health and safety of our employees.
