Welcoming Summer Students - Meet Madison Hogan

Welcoming students is a highlight of our summer calendar. Although we are in unprecedented times, our commitment to giving students a diverse work experience has not changed.

Madison Hogan, who is joining our Accounting & Reporting team this summer with a focus on the Transportation & Logistics division, is one of those students.

 Madison Hogan Summer Student

Madison is from Quispamsis, New Brunswick and attends the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. She is enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration program with a Major in Accounting. Madison has previously worked an eight-month co-op term with our Accounting team and is excited about the opportunity to continue learning about our operations.

"Throughout the first two work-terms, my role evolved immensely as I took on a broad range of accounting functions for different divisions within the company. This allowed me to take the skills and concepts that I had been studying in school and apply them in a professional working environment. I was involved in several floor wide projects that allowed me to network and get feedback from business professionals, including company executives. I spent a lot of time finding innovative ways to improve current processes and make tasks more efficient. On top of the accounting work, I was challenged to take on leadership roles through floor wide employee engagement activities. It was an incredible learning experience and I am confident that JDI was the perfect place to start my professional journey as an accounting co-op student."

When asked why she decided to return to JDI for another work term, Madison said "I found the level of enthusiasm and support that the employees had for the co-op program was exceptional. JDI is a diversified company that allows co-op students to experience multiple aspects of the business throughout their rotation. I knew that returning for a third work-term with the same company would offer me a completely different experience and allow me to gain exposure to a broader range of accounting functions."

Madison is one of our many team members that are currently working from home due to COVID-19. "I am so impressed with the way JDI has adapted to the situation in such a timely and socially responsible manner. I enjoyed transforming my spare room into an adequate office space for me to effectively work from home. The initial set-up process went smoothly, and I was able to efficiently complete all on-boarding and training sessions remotely. One of the drawbacks is missing out on daily social interactions but my colleagues have been great at making the best out of this situation. My team has implemented daily video calls and the leaders have found numerous ways to incorporate employee engagement activities through alternative methods. Overall, this experience has taught me the importance of adaptability, flexibility and resiliency which are three valuable traits that will have an ever-increasing importance in this new reality."

We are excited to have Madison on the team this summer, as well as over 300 students from 37 post-secondary institutions. Students are working across our operations, both from home and onsite. Welcome!
