Irving Equipment launches crane operator training program
Carter Darrah, Connor Ryan, Keith Hay and Luke Coughlan have hoisted their careers to new heights. They successfully completed a new crane operator training program launched by Irving Equipment and the Local 946 International Union of Operating Engineers in Saint John, New Brunswick.
From April to June 2023, the group of aspiring crane operators studied under Irving Equipment’s Jeremy Collins, a crane operator and registered instructor with the Province of New Brunswick. They undertook four weeks of theory and classroom study at the Local 946 union hall, three weeks of practical training and one week of preparation for the mobile crane operator block exam.
Not only did Carter, Connor, Keith and Luke complete the crane operator training program, but they also graduated with high honours. The program’s passing grade was 70 percent, and their average block exam score was 91. The four new crane operators began work in their field full-time the following week, having gained first-hand experience from a practicing professional from day one.
The future is bright for Carter, Connor, Keith and Luke. As crane operator apprentices with Irving Equipment, they will have the opportunity to work in erecting wind turbines, lifting bridges, piledriving, specialized transportation services, emergency responses, and so much more.
Irving Equipment and Local 946 anticipate their training class will launch in mid-2024. To learn more or apply to enroll in the crane operator training program, please e-mail résumés to info@irvingequipment.com.
