Irving Wallboard is celebrating an impressive milestone - 5 years without a Lost-Time Accident; this milestone is a first for J.D. Irving! 1825 days, 43800 hours and 1.2 million person-hours without an LTA happens because of the dedicated focus of each team member to keep one another safe. This achievement happened during the most significant period of growth in jobs and production since the plant began operation in 2007.

"While we are always constantly trying to improve our safety culture, we have spent the past 5 years making significant changes in the ways that we approach our work.  Safety is not an after thought; it is the first question we need to answer," says Jenna Hazelton, General Manager at Wallboard.

Irving Wallboard management and employees are very proud of this safety accomplishment and the culture they have developed. In saying that, they realize they need to continuously maintain a high level of awareness and commitment. At J.D. Irving, safety is an integral part of our business' success and at the end of the day, everyone is held accountable for their own actions.

"We make safety our top priority because taking care of one another is the way that we operate. It is important to us that we all get to go home to our families at the end of our shift. Our employees take the extra time to assess risk, remind one another how to work safely and have each other’s back when things get tough", says Hazelton.

To provide the employees with the tools they need to succeed, daily safety meetings and pre-task planning help ensure a clear understanding and care around the potential hazards on the  job. 

On February 10th, the entire plant celebrated with a catered team breakfast.

"I want to personally thank each and every one of your for your everyday dedication to safety on the job. To reach 5 years without a lost time accident means that we made safety - looking out for one another - our priority job after job, shift after shift, week after week and year after year. I am so proud to be a part of this team.  This is a huge accomplishment for not only our family here at Wallboard, but J.D. Irving too. Congratulations!"
