1. Growing Our Team

Over the next three years, J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) is forecasting over 10,400 hires across the company's diverse operations in Canada and the U.S. 

84% of the jobs are in Atlantic Canada. “When we look at our three-year forecast from 2018-2020, 84% of the jobs we need to fill are in the Atlantic provinces,” said Jeff Green, Director of Recruitment at JDI. “69% of the jobs are in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia alone.” 

2. Helping Communities in Need

Flooding along the Saint John river caused damage to many of the homes in the communities where we live and work. From tree planters to executives, the JDI team took time to fill and deliver sand bags, helping neighbours in need, and helicopter in a dedicated pharmacist!

3. Women in Trades

Congratulations to the Province of New Brunswick on the launch of the New Boots: Progressing Women in Trades network. The program's mandate is to attract, support, and retain more women in non-traditional skilled trades.

J.D. Irving, Limited is pleased to partner with the New Boots and sponsor 10 women through the program. "This is a great initiative and we look forward to working with New Boots to grow the number of skilled tradeswomen in our operations," said Jim Irving, Co-Chief Executive Officer.

4. High Honour

Natural Resources Magazine's third annual Industry Excellence Awards has named Jim Irving the Industry Person of the Year. 

"Mr. Irving was named Natural Resources Magazine’s Industry Person of the Year in recognition of his ongoing commitment to, and investment in, sustainable forestry, local employment, innovation and industry leadership," said Dawn Chafe, Executive Editor. " In the opinion of our judging panel, which comprised editorial staff and external industry experts, Mr. Irving's win is not a recognition of a particular accomplishment in a singular year. Rather, it celebrates a lifetime of industry leadership and innovation including an unprecedented commitment to reforestation and environmental protection, to the extraordinarily long-term vision encapsulated in 80+-year plans that are evident throughout the operation, to a continuous investment in staff and community. Jim Irving and the JDI team are industry leaders on a global scale," says Chafe.

5. Investing in Our Future

Irving Pulp and Paper as well as Irving Tissue on the west side of Saint John is underway with a $40 million upgrade. Eighty-four (84) New Brunswick companies from across New Brunswick worked on the modernization, with over 1200 contractor employees on site during the peak. We couldn't have done it without them!

10. Welcoming the Next Generation

We are delighted to have new hires celebrating their UNB graduations this week. As they cross the stage and become UNB alumni, they also become the newest members of the JDI team. 

They’ll be in good company; we're proud to have over 650 UNB graduates work across JDI operations. Thirty-three percent of those grads work in leadership roles.
